A-B Tech Placement Options
Please submit your application to attend A-B Tech to the Admissions Office before you schedule testing. Submit your application online.Placement is required for students entering all diploma and degree programs, many certificate programs, and for specific courses with English, reading, or math prerequisites. Placement must be completed BEFORE students attend New Student Orientation.
Students have several placement options and may use one or more of the following:
Option 1 – Transfer Credit
Submit a transcript from the college at which a pre-requisite course was completed with a grade of “C” or higher. Official transcripts are required for program placement.
Option 2 – Accuplacer Assessment
Complete the Accuplacer Placement Assessment, available at A-B Tech several times each week. The assessment is computer based and must be completed in person – use the calendar below to schedule your session. Students may take the Accuplacer at another college – for more information, please contact a distance advisor at distanceadvising@abtech.edu .
Option 3 – Alternate Placement Assessments
Complete and submit official scores from an alternate placement assessment.
Option 4 – Informed Consent
Students with relevant life, work, or educational experience may be eligible to waive the placement requirement. Informed Consent may not be used for admission to a limited or competitive program. To review eligibility, see an advisor in the K. Ray Bailey Student Services Center or call 828-398-7583. Distance students may contact the distance advisor at distanceadvising@abtech.edu.

A-B Tech requires students applying for competitive and modified competitive programs to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills, TEAS. For general information about the TEAS test visit ATI Testing
